What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the Cannabid sativa plant - a species that contains over 100 different biologically active molecules.

While cannabis is well known for its other psychoactive ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is non-psychoactive — in other words, it will not make you high.

How does CBD work?

We have an inbuilt biological system in our bodies called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This is the body’s main regulatory system and is universal to all vertebrates. The endocannabinoid system helps keep the body in balance. It impacts several major processes, including appetite, sleep, mood, and memory.

The endocannabinoids in ECS closely resemble the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant — CBD.

When your receptors react with CBD, they form anti-inflammatory effects that reduce pain. CBD receptors also affect conditions like anxiety, depression, and stress.

Because CBD is becoming more mainstream, you might automatically assume that all CBD is legal. This is incorrect. CBD is broken down into 3 types; full spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate. Only two types, broad spectrum and isolate, are legal in Hong Kong.

  • ISOLATE (legal in Hong Kong)

CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, which is produced by removing all other compounds found in the plant including terpenes, flavonoids, plant parts, and other cannabinoids.

  • BROAD SPECTRUM (legal in Hong Kong)

Broad spectrum CBD is a bit of a mix between Full Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate. Like Full Spectrum CBD, the other compounds found within the plant are preserved in the extract; however, like CBD Isolate, THC is completely removed.Broad spectrum CBD is legal in Hong Kong if there are no traces of THC or CBN.

  • FULL SPECTRUM (not legal in Hong Kong)

Full spectrum CBD is an extract that contains all compounds found naturally occurring in the plant, including terpenes, essential oils, and other cannabinoids, including THC.
